Physical Therapy

 

Referral Process

  • consent by parent

  • medical prescription signed by health care practitioner

Eligibility

 An exceptional student is eligible for a specially directed program for physical therapy if the exceptional student has:

  1. Identified physical impairments, motor deficits or developmental delays which significantly interfere with the achievement of learning; or

  2. Muscular or  neuromuscular conditions, skeletal deformities, trauma or physically debilitating conditions which limit the student's ability to attain functional performance within the educational setting.

  3. An evaluation by a physical therapist licensed in this state.

  4. Medical prescription.  Prior to the determination of eligibility and in the event of a change in medical condition of the student, the school district shall have a written medical prescription for physical therapy signed by a health care practitioner.

Supported Services

Physical therapy may be provided by either a licensed physical therapist or a licensed physical therapy assistant.

Curriculum

Shall be based on the student's individual education plan (IEP) and the plan of treatment developed by a physical therapist.

Training

Physical therapists may participate in any training or professional development activities.
